Ready for the Road Again

We have spent the past six weeks in Illinois, the longest we have spent in one place since leaving Washington last Fall. The first five weeks were in Yorkville Illinois near our daughter and enjoying granddaughters Payton and Ella.

While in Chicago we spent a day on the Lakefront with our son-in-law Roger's parents Marty and Vern Strausberger. We had a chance to see Chicago's latest art object, The Bean, as well as a great afternoon on Navy Pier.

We also got away for a couple of days in Lake Geneva Wisconsin with old aviation friends Charlie and Erica Priester who own a beautiful condo just outside of town. Charlie and Jeff proved that they were NOT up to the Gary Player Course at Geneva National! It was a great afternoon after the score card got torn in two on the 4th or 5th hole. Dinner that evening at the Hunt Club was a great end to the day.

We spent an extra week in Yorkville because Roger's Volleyball team competed in the Illinois State Playoffs which made the whole family instant volleyball fans! Naperville North ended up winning second place (thanks to fine coaching) and we all had a great time! The next day it was time to say goodbye to the kids until early September when we will be back to meet our oldest daughter Jami and her family who will be stopping at Laurie's for a few days and gives us a chance for a short reunion with everyone.

For the past week we have been in our old stomping grounds in central Illinois visiting Sue's sister Polly and old friends and neighbors in Bloomington and the Peoria area. We have really enjoyed seeing neighbors and friends including attending our church here this morning. Some of these relationships go back 25 years and mean a great deal. The opportunity to combine travel with seeing these friends has been the real icing on the cake to this lifestyle for us.

As great as the past few weeks have been it is time to get back on the road! We are headed for the Amana Colonies out in Iowa tomorrow for a few days and from there up to southern Minnesota to see Sue's niece Wendy again. They have a beautiful home in the country with lots of RV parking. From there we head for Sioux Falls to complete our SD residency by getting driver licenses and registering to vote.
