Salt Lake City- Searching for Ancestors

For several years one of Jeff's goals has been family history research and with Sue in Hawaii with our latest granddaughter this was the chance to visit the largest collection of genealogy records in the world, the LDS Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City. The FHL is an amazing collection of records accessed in person by about 1900 people a day. The collection includes over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records; 742,000 microfiche; 310,000 books, serials, and other formats; 4,500 periodicals; 700 electronic resources.

The records are being microfilmed all over the world and are made available to everyone at no charge. The records included marriage records on Jeff's great great grandfather Joseph and deeds for Joseph's father Issac who was born in 1797. A week is just a good start on gathering the information available. These are in addition to all the information accessible online through digital records that can be easily scanned by computer. The next step will be checking local records in Maine next summer.

This weekend is the start of the spring RV Forum rally in Moab, UT, about 220 miles SE of Salt Lake City.
