Cousins and More Cousins

We spent two wonderful days visiting Jeff's cousin Otis Davis and his wife Vivian who we have not seen in over 20 years. Ote was in the auction business in upstate New York and now is retired just outside Palmyra, NY. They have a beautiful home in the country with room for a couple of horses and a long driveway that holds RV's very easily! After catching up on each others' lives over the past two decades it was time to say goodbye and head east to Vermont to Jeff's brother Barry Cousins and wife Ann. We are in a relaxed traveling mode and spent the first night about 100 miles north of Palmyra on the east shore of Lake Ontario at Sackets Harbor, site of the Battle of Sackets Harbor during the War of 1812. An easy drive the next day saw us in Lake Placid NY, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Lake Placid really requires more than a day and a half so we plan on returning to finish our tour. The next day was a long 21 mile drive to the Port Kent ferry terminal for a ferry ride across Lake Champlain to Burlington VT to visit Jeff's brother Barry and SIL Ann for a few days.Day one included a round of golf for Barry, Ann, and Jeff while Sue had a hair appointment and then dinner to celebrate Sue's birthday.
Barry and Ann own a 31' boat on the lake that is their second home all summer as well as the getaway on the lake and so far as far away as Quebec City via the St Lawrence. We spent the day Saturday cruising the Burlington area before getting together with their daughter Jenny and her family later in the day.Sunday was a morning of shopping for us before driving out to their house in Richmond for dinner and a fond farewell.
We left Burlington Monday for a couple hours of driving to St Johnsbury to spend a couple of days touring the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The northern reaches of Vermont are steeped in history and miles of beautiful rolling hills accented by deep lakes gouged out of the rocky soil by advancing glaciers. Every little town also seems to be determined to have the tallest and most unique church steeple.
We enjoyed a belated anniversary dinner at Juniper's at the Wild Flower Inn up in the hills north of Lyndonville where we enjoyed the view from the dining deck on the rear of the restaurant.

We are now in North Conway New Hampshire where we will stay off the roads over the 4th of July weekend. We drove down here yesterday and Sue has been availing herself of the shopping available in the outlets that North Conway is known for. We will spend a day or two touring Mt Washington and the Franconia Notch area before departing Monday for Maine.
