A Delayed Departure
After checking the temperatures east of the Cascades (95-104) we decided to spend another week in Washington. To avoid the higher than normal temps in western Washington we went back to Anacortes on Fidalgo Island for the week. Our friends Stan & Marilyn DeBlick (and their Granddaughter) and Bill & Helen Boice joined us for dinner one night . We had spent a lot of time with them over the past three weeks so it was a great send off.
We spent part of the week at Fidalgo Bay RV Park which is owned by the Sammish Nation and who hosted a dinner of the 2006 Family Canoe Trip. Some of the canoes here came from northern Canada and were joined by participating tribes down the coast. They spent the night here for dinner and were scheduled to arrive in Seattle a few days later. A large group were on hand to greet them and share a very late dinner.
We spent a leisurely day exploring Fidalgo and Whidbey Islands. This view is looking west at Deception Pass Bridge from the northern edge of Whidbey. The magnificient scenery becomes almost everyday out here and on the rest of Puget Sound.
Our last few days were spent at the Swinomish Casino RV Park because of the view out the windsheild of our RV. Here is one of the many shots we took of passing boats with Mt Baker for a background.
What does not show are the low 60's temperatures in the early morning rising to low 70's by afternoon. We spent our last evening in Washington over the Cascades at our old haunt Leavenworth where the temperature rose to 96 in the afternoon. The forecast for Idaho and Montana is for low to mid 80's by the weekend. Hope they are right!
